UPDATED: Police Arrest Anambra Female Native Doctor, Probe How 3 Children Died in Her Residence
The Anambra State Police Command haa arrested a female native doctor, popularly known as “Ezenwanyi,” in connection with the death of three children in her residence.
The three children were reportedly found unconscious at the residence of Ezenwanyi in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Police investigators say a fourth child is in critical condition.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, has left the community in shock as residents struggle to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
According to residents, the four children, believed to be between six and 15 years old, were discovered unconscious inside the woman’s compound.
Three were pronounced dead, while the surviving child was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.
The identities of the victims and how they ended up at the premises were yet to be established at the time of filing this report.
Videos circulating online showed police officers, community leaders, and local security personnel inspecting the compound shortly after the incident, while the suspect led investigators around different sections of the premises.
A statement by the State Police Command however says the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Ogidi Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with community leaders.
The Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in the statement said officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and evacuated the victims to a hospital.
He said medical personnel confirmed three of the children dead, while the fourth remains on admission in critical condition.
Ikenga disclosed that the female suspect is in police custody and that the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case for a thorough, intelligence-driven investigation.
He added that investigators hope the surviving child, once medically fit, will provide crucial information to help unravel what happened.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while police urged residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information as investigations continue.
