Flood Submerges Schools, Communities In Delta As Council Chairman Visits Affected Areas

Residents in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state have been rendered homeless while schools, farms and business places submerged by flood that has ravaged several communities in the area.

Properties worth several millions of naira have been destroyed at Araya, Uzere, Igbide, Okpolo-Enhwe, Enhwe and other communities following the flood which has made life more hard and difficult for the people.


Chairman of Isoko South council, Friday Ovoke Warri who took on the spot accessment of some of the affected communities over the weekend expressed sadness over the level of damaged caused by the flood.

At the Adam’s Memorial Secondary School Araya, temporary home to Internally Displaced Persons, the council chairman, who sympathised with fold victims in Isoko South assured that his administration remains devoted to addressing their needs, cautioned residents to as a matter of urgency adhere strictly to government earlier warnings for relocation from flood prone areas to the upper land for safety.

While showing solidarity with families and individuals displaced due to the flooding in parts of the local government, Warri, stated that government was already on top of the situation in providing all it takes for their protection and well-being.

His words: “I stand in solidarity with you today. As fate would have it, I must inform the state government. We are blessed with a governor who grasps the depth of your struggles. Necessary resources will be deployed to alleviate your needs, and we vow to support you throughout this difficult period.

“I extend my gratitude to all community leaders and volunteers who work diligently to address the needs of our constituents here. You are my constituents, and I pledge to engage with you, support you, and cater for your needs wherever you are,”, Warri assured.

Ziino Osuofa, Secretary to the local government and other officials, accompanied the council chairman during the visit to flood affected communities in the council.

As at the time of this report, the flood has continued ravaging certain areas of Isoko South Local Government Area, submerging thousands of homes and displacing numerous residents as the water level continues to rise.
