U.S. President Joe Biden, on Sunday, commended his Nigerian counterpart, Bola Tinubu, over steps to reform Nigeria’s economy.

Biden engaged the Nigerian President on the sidelines of the G20 Summit held in New Delhi.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that the meeting underscored the sustained commitment and longstanding relationship between the U.S. and Nigeria.

According to the White House, in a statement, Biden commended President Tinubu’s administration for its economic reform initiatives in Nigeria.

He also recognized Tinubu’s pivotal role as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), particularly for promoting democracy and maintaining the rule of law in Niger and the wider region.

President Tinubu, who assumed power in May this year after a successful election, signified Nigeria’s influential global position by participating in the G20 Summit.

Nigeria’s presence at the summit mirrors its standing as the largest democracy and economy in Africa.

The statement reads; “President Joe Biden met with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu today on the sidelines of the G20 in New Delhi, India to reinforce our enduring commitment to the U.S.-Nigeria relationship and to the longstanding friendship between our two countries and peoples.

“President Biden welcomed the Tinubu Administration’s steps to reform Nigeria’s economy and thanked President Tinubu for his strong leadership as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States to defend and preserve democracy and the rule of law in Niger and the broader region.
