Africa Youth Awards (AYA), a prestige award scheme with the prime aim of appreciating the works of young Africans in Africa and the Diaspora, said it is fully in support of actions of Nigeria youths who are demanding change to governance of their country.

Launched in 2014, Africa Youth Awards’ scheme was inspired by the lack of recognition for young Africans who have selflessly dedicated their lives to making sure the future of Africa is optimistic.

According to the body, Nigerian youth have demonstrated the power young Africans have to cause a change to the continent. “We are all responsible for the future of our country and continent”, the body said.

In an electronic statement made available to BIGPEN on Friday, the body reiterated that in the past weeks, young Nigerians through various peaceful means have become a beacon of hope for young Africans for their actions to unite and demand their rights and an end to injustice across the continent.

“These actions, which have attracted global support and attention continues to show the power that every young person on the continent has to contribute to shaping the future of Africa.

“In the past days, over 70 young Nigerians have lost their lives through the peaceful #EndSARS campaign, and we would like to encourage you to also join the campaign and lend your voice towards this much needed movement.

“We are also urging the government to use peaceful dialogue to resolve every issue & recommendations, and not resort to other means as witnessed in the last few days.

“The #EndSARS protest isn’t only about demanding for changes in Nigeria, but change across Africa, and is also proof that young Africans have the power to call for widespread change in governance activities in their countries”.
