BREAKING: 5 Feared Dead, Many Injured As Hausa, Igbo Clash In Asaba

Latest information reaching BigPen Online shows that there is outbreak of crisis between Hausa and Igbo in Asaba, Delta State.

Our source said the Hausa community in Asaba is under attack by invaders.

The source said five persons have been confirmed dead, and several others injured in the fracas which erupted between 9:00hr to 10: pm.

The source said that the incident which happened at Abraka market area, dominated by Hausa people has sparked tension in the metropolis.

It was gathered that the deceased persons including a woman were hacked by rampaging youths suspected to be members of IPOB who invaded the Hausa community.

The deceased has since been deposited in the morgan while the injured persons hospitalized, a source said.

Asaba had always been a point of refuge for Hausas in the south eastern part of the country whenever there was crises situation.

Alhaji Auwal Tukur, Special Assistant to the former Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan who later confirmed the incident to Bounce News, said the incident occurred at the Abraka market, which has a very high presence of Hausas in the state.

Alhaji Tukur said: “Around after nine in the evening they came to cable mosque and threw a bomb but it didn’t explode somebody took it and threw it into the river.”

“The boys numbering over 20 went to the Hausa market at Abraka in Asaba and shot sporadically killing 4 people instantly and injured others” he said.

Meanwhile, security personnel from the Police and Army have been drafted to the scene and other flash point areas to forestall any reoccurrence or likely reprisal attack as tension continues to mount in other areas occupied by the Hausa Community in Asaba.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Andrew Aniamaka when contacted, said he was yet to be brief about the incident and can’t comment.
