Ex-FIRS Coordinator, Joel-Onowakpo, Uduaghan, Others Bag SOCCOVID Ambassadorial Award

Hon Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, a former coordinator in the Federal Inland Revenue Service, (FIRS), has signed the national COVID-19 support register after being conferred with a honorary award as Ambassador for the Society Committee Against COVID-19 (SOCCOVID).

SOCOCOVID is an non-profit organisation which recognizes individuals contributions towards the fight against COVID-19, particularly supports rendered to humanity during and after the government declared lock down in corroboration with the efforts of the Presidential task Force on COVID-19.

Onowakpo was among several other Nigerians including the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture and President, World Crafts Council, African Region, Otunba Segun Runsewe and Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan who bagged the award at a ceremony attended by the Minister of Women affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, who delivered a keynote address in the virtual event held in Abuja.

The APC candidate for Isoko Federal Constituency in the 2019 general election, joined the event from the United States via zoom but was represented by his personal assistant, Mr Edafewotu Endurance who signed the National Covid-19 Support Register on his behalf.

Speaking at the event, National Coordinator, Society Committee Against COVID-19, Dr. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu said, that the award was in recognition of the role, generous contribution and donations both in kind and cash made by the trio in cushioning the effects of the pandemic.

According to Dr. Ibe-Kalu, ‘’our organisation is very much aware of the various channels you have created to educate Nigerians on the dangers of COVID-19 and more especially your contribution toward catering for the needs of the vulnerable in the society.

Specifically, he said that Joel-Onowakpo and Uduaghan have demonstrated the love that can only prove that humanity exists to help each other.

He said, “SOCOCOVID is a non-governmental organisation that is putting resources together in the critical response to flatten the curve of the spread of the deadly pandemic.”

According to Ibe-Kalu, by signing the National COVID-19 Support Register and being decorated as Sococovid Ambassador, the awardees have engraved their names in the book of records and in history as among individuals who committed their hard earned resources to complement government efforts to eradicate the deadly virus.

The Register when launched, according to him, shall be displayed in the National Assembly, State Assemblies, Tertiary Institutions, National Archives, Foreign Embassies and High Commissions in Nigeria, Nigeria Foreign Missions abroad.
