Police Detains Man Who Shoots Girlfriend Dead Over Cheating Allegation

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested and detained one Munabo Tonworio, who reportedly shot his girlfriend to death for allegedly cheating on him.

BIGPEN ONLINE learnt that the incident which happened Sunday has left residents of Olusiri town, Nembe local government area of Bayelsa state with shock and disbelief.

Local sources from the community said the suspect, Munabo Tonworio, claimed his victim, Victoria Ekalamene, who was his girlfriend was cheating on him.

According to our source, the jealous lover apparently pointed a gun at his victim while interrogating her on her relationship with an undisclosed man she was sighted with when the gun went off in her face.

“The girl died instantly before she got to the hospital. The ugly incident which happened around 11pm on Sunday night threw the entire Oluasiri town into panic and shock, while those close to the young girl where left mourning”, our source said.

It was learnt that the killer lover who is in his late twenties was however apprehended by a mob while trying to flee and handed over to the Nembe unit of the Nigerian Police Force for prosecution.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Bayelsa state Police Command spokesman, Asinim Butswats, said the suspect has been arrested and detained.

He said, “On 14/04/2019 at about 2245 hrs one Munabo Tonworio ‘m’ 28 years shot dead his lover one Victoria Ekalamene ‘f’ 34 years, after a quarrel at the residence of the deceased in Oluasiri, Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

“The murder weapon, a locally cut-to-size gun and an expanded AA ammunition were recovered from the scene. The suspect has been arrested and is being detained at the SCIID, Yenagoa. Investigation is ongoing”
