Oborevwori Aide Reveals Arrest of Man Behind Pistol Delivery that Led to Oghenemine’s Police Shooting
Two suspects allegedly linked to the movement of the pistol involved in the case of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi, who was shot dead in broad daylight by now-dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman, have been arrested.
The suspects were detained by police detectives conducting ongoing investigations and were brought into custody at the Effurun Area Command of the Delta State Police in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area.
Sources revealed that the suspects were brought to the police station late Wednesday night.
Among the suspects is the principal offender, a man based in Bayelsa, who reportedly dispatched the Beretta pistol along with four rounds of ammunition from Yenagoa to Warri.
The firearm was intended to be received by the deceased, Oghenemine, at Effurun motor park, where he was to collect the parcel and forward it to its supposed recipient in Sapele.
Oghenemine lost his life when ASP Nuhu Usman intercepted him at the park, tying his arms and legs before firing multiple shots, in a controversial manner that has sparked outrage both locally and internationally, with allegations of extrajudicial killing.
Sources close to the investigation disclosed that one of the suspects confirmed to be the sender of the firearm.
“It’s confirmed that two suspects were brought in on Wednesday night. One is the person who sent the gun from Yenagoa to Effurun. Police detectives are still working to determine the role of the second suspect and to identify other individuals involved,” the source said.
While the Delta State Police Command has not issued an official statement, the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Security, Udoka Emmanuel Chika-dibie, confirmed the arrest via a Facebook post on Thursday.
He wrote: “Breaking. Police last night nabbed the Bayelsa sender of a gun that led to Oghenemine’s killing by Delta officer.”
Chika-dibie also commended the Effurun Police Area Command, especially ACP Aliyu Shaba, for the breakthrough in the investigation.
