Gov. Oborevwori Approves Suspension of Poly Rector, Bursar for 6 Months Over Alleged Financial Misconduct
Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the suspension of the Rector and Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.
Recalls the State House of Assembly had on Thursday during plenary suspended the Rector and Bursar following allegations of financial recklessness, misappropriation of funds and gross administrative misconduct leveled against them.
The Assembly said that the decision was reached after a review of a report from a parliamentary investigative committee specifically tasked with probing the financial and administrative practices of the polytechnic.
The governor, in his capacity as Visitor to the polytechnic, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, approved the immediate suspension of the institution’s Rector and Bursar for a period of six months.
He also upheld the earlier suspension of the Registrar by the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.
The statement explained that the suspension of the principal officers is to allow for a thorough and unbiased investigation into allegations of administrative misconduct and financial breaches levelled against them by the Governing Council.
The statement further directed that the Deputy Rector shall act as Rector during the six-month suspension period, while the most senior accountant in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar for the same duration.
