Veteran singer, John Odafe Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, has described as ‘uncalled for’ the suspension of two female supernumerary police officers over a video they posted on TikTok.

The two SPY police had in a video which went viral with captioned “sisters that slay together, work together”, were seen in series of pictures dressed in their uniforms, bikini, and casual wear.

The development which apparently embarrassed Force Headquarters landed the two supernumerary Police officers, Obaze Blessing and Obaze Emmanuella Uju, a suspension over misconduct and violation of social media policy.

But reacting to the suspension, Daddy Showkey who took to his Instagram page, stated that the action taken by the NPF was “uncalled for” as the video only aimed to portray the Nigerian police in a more relatable light to the populace.

According to him, the video could potentially reframe the mind of young people towards the police force for good.

“I tell you, our young people are not interested in joining the police, because many policemen have demonized the police.

“Somebody will see a policeman and be afraid, somebody will see a police police and be afraid to go to the policeman and say ‘this is what is wrong with me’.

“These two ladies are trying to make the police to be interesting. Trying to make young people to say ‘if we look like this, if we are like this, and we join the police, it doesn’t make the police a bad force’(sic).

“You’re the same people trying to repair the image of the police, go and find out. Do visibility studies (sic) on the image of the police. For me, I believe the suspension is uncalled for,” he said in a video posted via his Instagram page on Saturday.

www.bigpenngr.com had reported that two supernumerary police officers (SPY) were suspended by Force Headquarters with ‘immediate effect’ on the order of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, who on Friday, issued a strict warning on the incessant, illegal and unwarranted use of Police Uniforms restricted to bonafide serving officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

Force Headquarters Public Relation Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement conveying the suspension order, said that the suspended supernumerary officers – Obaze Blessing with SPY number 5709, and Obaze Emmanuella Uju with SPY number 5708, had adorned themselves in conventional police officers’ uniforms contrary to the code regulating the SPY service.

Adejobi said that the two female cops had “portrayed themselves in the viral video and other videos as undisciplined and unprofessional in contravention of the police social media policy.”
