The Minister of Interior and former governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, who boycotted the Saturday’s governorship election in his state, has been captured on camera in the United States being embarrassed in a restaurant.

In a video footage seen by www.bigpenngr.com which surfaced online, on Saturday, Aregbesola was seen in a restaurant in the US trying to dish a meal but was trailed behind by an unidentified Nigerian who recorded his moves.

The Nigerian must have find it amusing to see the Minister whom he called by name to confirm he was the one in the USA’s restaurant at a time all APC gladiators were in his state of Osun supporting Oyetola.

In the footage, Aregbesola was seen asking the man to come to the meal table with him but he got infuriated when he noticed the man kept recording him.

In an ensuing confrontation, the Minister tried to smashed the camera and was heard telling the man he was infringing on his private life.

But the man insisted he was in America where First Amendment protects citizens’ right to record particularly when he was in a public place. The man threatened to sue Aregbesola if he tried to damage his camera or touched him.

Aregbesola had jetted out of Nigeria on Friday to attend a conference slated for Monday in Germany by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU). He had publicly scorned the second-term ambition of Gov Adegboyega Oyetola, endorsing the former secretary to the state government, Moshood Adeoti against the governor reelection bid. This came after his relationship with his supposed ‘godfather’, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) got soured over some irreconcilable differences.

As the man, who seats at the helms of the supervising Ministry for the Nigeria Correctional Service (formerly Nigeria Prisons Service), Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Aregbesola has faced scathing criticisms, over alleged failings of the Ministry in its critical roles in the nation’s internal security, including the management and protection of the nation’s correctional centres, according to report.

www.bigpenngr.com reports that Aregbesola had been under probe by the House of Representative over alleged misuse of N165 billion budgeted to the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCoS) within the last two years.

The NCoS headed by Mr Haliru Nababa and supervised by Aregbesola’s Ministry of Interior, had come under barrage of criticisms over incessant jailbreaks across the country. A recent one under the nose of Aregbesola was at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abuja which came under terrorists’ attack few weeks ago.

The House of Representatives had launched probe into the activities of NCoS under Aregbesola’s supervision followed a motion under matters of national importance sponsored by Mr. Ndudi Elumelu (PDP, Delta North) while addressing the appalling state of custodial facilities and general welfare of inmates in the country.

Elumelu who is the House minority leader claimed that the NCS has not lived up to expectations under Aregbesola in spite of the enactment of the Nigeria Correctional Service Act 2019 which prioritized the welfare of its officers and men in line with international best practices.

The Delta-born lawmaker alleged that despite the increase in budgetary allocations to the Nigerian Correctional Service to drive its renewed mandate, the tempo and quality of the Service have remained the same if not retrogressing.

Elumelu said it was worrisome that the working conditions of Staff and inmates’ welfare have deteriorated notwithstanding the over N165Billion budget allocations to the Service in the last two years.
