Okowa’s Choice, Oborevwori Beats Ibori’s ‘Anointed’ Edevbie, Others To Clinch Delta PDP Guber Ticket

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and 2023 governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, has defeated his main rivals to clinch the ticket of the party
BIGPENNGR.COM reports that Oborevwori floored David Edevbie and James Manager who were his closest co-contesters in a landslide contest to clinch the PDP ticket.
A total of 825 accredited delegates from the 25 local government areas of the state voted at the primary which was held under tight security at the Stephen Keshi stadium Asaba, the state capital.
Oborevwori touted as Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s anointed candidate, defeated former governor, Chief James Ibori-backed Olorogun David Edevbie and Senator James Manager who was believed to be Okowa’s plan ‘B’.
Announcing the results, the returning officer, Ndubisi Nwobu, declared Oborevwori as the winner and candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming 2023 general elections amidst jubilation by supporters.
He announced that Oborevwori polled 590 out of 825 votes to beat the former commissioner for finance, Edevbie, who was the anointed candidate of former governor Ibori.
Edevbie got 113 votes to clinch the second position while Manager polled 83 votes to come third position.
State deputy governor, Kingsley Otuaro got a pantry 9 votes alongside former Attorney General and commissioner for justice, Peter Mrakpo who had 9 votes.
Nine other aspirants participated in the primary election except Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi who had earlier withdrawn from the race citing hijack of the process by Governor Okowa.
BIGPENNGR.COM reports that both Edevbie and Otuaro left the venue of the primary after the sorting and conclusion of the counting of votes.
