‘Bakassi Boys’ Resurface In South East, Reportedly Kill And Burn Six Suspected Criminals

A new security outfit in the like of the dreaded Bakassi Boys of old has stormed Awka, Anambra State capital.

News Express reports that the new security group is out to help other security agencies in the state weed out suspected cultists and other criminal elements terrorising the state in the rent times.

According to the report, members of the outfit adorning black outfit and wielding matchets arrived Awka on Saturday on the invitation of seven villages within Awka town.

Information has it that the security outfit has already swung into action, allegedly killing and burning six suspected criminals within Awka metropolis.

According to a source, “The ‘boys’ came mainly for alleged cult groups which have taken over Awka town in recent times without any response from the police.

“That’s the only thing I can tell you for now; let’s see how things work out in days and weeks to come”

A senior police officer who spoke with journalists in confidence confirmed the arrival of some unorthodox security men but failed to confirm who they were and from where they came.

“If they engage in jungle justice, nobody will talk especially the lawyers and human rights groups, but when police engage in such, the whole world will tumble and that’s what the state deserves,” the source said.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, however denied knowledge of the arrival of the security outfit.

“I don’t have any such details before me. Meanwhile I will make enquires please and get back to you,” he said.
