COVID-19: Nigerian Dupes Chinese N20m With Cartons Of Papers As Face Masks

Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team have arrested Sunday Iloka for selling papers as face masks to a Chinese national.
Iloka was arrested in an operation carried out by the IRT, Lagos State office.

The suspect was alleged to have taken advantage of the worried Chinese, Zhan Han, who needed hundreds of cartons of face masks to ship to his country folks being ravaged by the coronavirus.

Our reporter gathered that Iloka exploited Han’s desperation for face masks and sold him cartons filled with papers for N20 million.

Iloka was alleged to have carried out the scheme in collaboration with other syndicate members, who are presently at large.

According to a Police source: “Han, on March 4, reported through a written petition that sometimes in February, Sunday Iloka and others at large obtained the sum of N20 million from him under the guise of supplying him face masks, which he intended to ship to China because of the outbreak of the coronavirus.

“Han further started that the suspect packaged ordinary papers and delivered to him.”
It was further gathered that the IGP, after receiving the petition, ordered the national head of the IRT Unit, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, to fish out the syndicate.

According to The Eagle Online report, Kyari, working in synergy with the Lagos Head of IRT Unit, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Philip Rieninwa, and other operatives launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of IIoka.

Following the arrest of the suspect, the IRT Unit has launched a manhunt for the fleeing members of the syndicate
