Facts have emerged how the dreaded and contagious coronavirus disease was birthed in Enugu state with two positive cases few days after Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state was seen in a hall with a large number of people chanting a birthday song in his honour.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Friday night announced the two cases which was later confirmed Saturday morning by the state Ministry of Health.

BIGPEN understands that since the video went viral, tongues are wagging that the positive corona virus cases in the state must have emanated from the event.

A video which went viral had shown Governor Ugwuanyi, amidst the corona virus pandemic with a group of people celebrating his birthday in a mini-hall.

The meeting neither observed global guidelines on social distancing nor restriction on number of people gathering at a particular time.

Former deputy senate president, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and a member of Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Chima Obieze were among those seen in the video.

Ekweremadu held the microphone to coordinate a birthday song in honour of the governor in the crowded hall.

But following backlash and criticism which trailed the video, Obieze would later debunked the reports that the governor threw a birthday bash in a statement, saying there was no party neither was there a plan by the governor to host a group event.

He said that it was a meeting of all political office holders from the state who met on how to find solutions to the raging health crises which happen to have coincided with the birth date of the governor.

According to him, a cake was brought to the governor as a surprise gift, just immediately after the meeting.

“my attention has been drawn to a video making the rounds where people are misconstruing a video recorded and shared by me to wish the Governor of Enugu State a happy Birthday. The video was recorded after an emergency meeting of all political office holders in Enugu on how to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The meeting was on a day that happened to be the Governor’s Birthday. So while the meeting was on, a well-wisher delivered a beautiful Lion Designed cake to the Governor. The Governor almost rejected the cake on the grounds that he wanted no celebrations but we at the meeting prevailed on him to accept the cake”.
