Ogwashi-Uku Dam Was Completed, FG Denies PDP’s Claim (Photos)

The federal government has denied claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the Ogwashi-Uku dam was not completed.
The FG, through the Ministry of Water Resources explained that the water in the dam was impounded, and a reservoir was made.
It added that the project had been completed since 2016 and government is waiting for concessions to private investors.
The Dam was completed — the water “impounded” (and reservoir created), and spillway discharge channel finished — in 2016.
Ogwashi-Uku earth dam project is located in Aboh Ogwashi in Aniocha South LGA of Delta state. The project was conceived to solve the acute water supply problems of Ogwashi-Uku and environs, support rural development & provide hydropower.
The major components of the project are:
i. A 15m high, 280m long earthfill dam with reservoir capacity of 4MCM.
ii. A free overflow ogee concrete spillway complete with concrete lined discharge channel
iii. 1MW hydropower component
iv. 3km asphalt paved access road including dam crest.
v. Service quarters for staff.
The dam was COMPLETED and the reservoir impounded in 2016.
The hydropower component is slated for private sector participation through a concession arrangement, which is currently on-going.
Service quarters were completed and put into use.
The 3km access road is outstanding.
