The result of Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), primaries for Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, was collated and announced at the Delta Police headqaurters in Asaba, the state capital, amidst chaos which erupted during the exercise.

The primary held at the cenotaph, Asaba, was disrupted following heavy shooting, a development which forced the police to move the sorting and collation of the results to the police headquarters for continuation.

Sources claimed that incumbent member representing the area, Mrs. Mrakpor, who is the wife of the Delta state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice disrupted the exercise when she sensed it was not favouring her.

The source also accused the state chairman of the party, Mr. Kingsley Esiso for taking side and fueling the disruption of the sorting and collation of the results which was already going against Mrakpor who later lost out in the contest.

“When the federal lawmaker saw that she was already been defeated in the primary by her opponent and former member of the house of Representatives, Mr. Ndidi Elumelu, she left her seat, went straight to where the collation of results was going on and began to challenge and bully the party officials conducting the primary.

“As the situation was gradually getting heating up, security orderly attached to the federal lawmaker fired several shots into the air, and in the process, the lawmaker’s husband and the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor, who was at the venue of the exercise put call across to the state party chairman, Mr. Esiso who drove down to the scene.

“On arrival, the state party chairman, Esiso, who is said to be supporting the federal lawmaker, slapped one of the officials conducting the primary, at this point, the event became charged up, leading to the disruption of the exercise, and security agents began shooting sporadically accompanied with tear gassing.

“As the crisis was ranging on, Mrs. Mrakpor was arrested and taken to the state police command where the state commissioner of police, Mr. Muhammed Mustafa, intervened and the counting process of the votes was concluded in the premises of the police headquarters”.

However, the former federal lawmaker, and younger brother of the chairman of United Bank for Africa, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu later emerged the PDP candidate for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency in the 2019 general elections.
