Delta Monarch Calls For Synergy Between Urhobos At Home And The Diaspora

The President General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) in United Kingdom, Olorogun (Barr) Emmanuel Okpako Ganiga, being conferred the prestigious traditional title as Emuesiri of Idjerhe Kingdom by HRM King Edward Igho Otadeferua, Erhiekevwe I, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom.

 

A first class traditional ruler in Delta state and the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, HRM King Edward Igho Otadeferua, has advocated for stronger traditional ties between the Urhobos at home and their counterparts in the Diaspora.

He said this is to ensure that the Urhobo traditional values and cultural heritage are sustained for unborn children of Urhobo nation.

The Paramount Ruler spoke in his palace in Otorho Idjehe in Ethiope West Local Government Council of Delta state while confering the prestigious title of Emuesiri of Idjerhe kingdom on a london based legal luminary and President General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) in United Kingdom, Olorogun Barrister Emmanuel Okpako Ganiga.

The monarch stated that the only way to sustained the Urhobo culture and tradition was for the royal institutions in Urhobo to ensure that “our sons and duaghters both at home and abroad speak the Urhobo language”.

According to him, Olorogun Ganiga as the President General of UPU in Great Britain remain the highest Ambassodor of Urhobo Nation in that land and “must therefore put all mechineries in motion to ensure that Urhobo cultural values and tradition is sustained”.

Speaking after the installation, Olorogun Barrister Emmanuel Okpako Ganiga thanked the monarch for the honour, describing him however as a rally point for all children of the Okpamen of Agbarha Otor, where present Idjerhe and Oghara kingdom migrated from several hundreds of years ago.

He said that the royal father had shown love and direction to all sons and daughters of Ethiope West in particular and Urhobo Nation in general.

Olorogun Okpako Ganiga therefore assured the Idjerhe monarch that whatever qualities that made the king to recognize him will not only be sustained but will be greatly improved upon.
