Senator Ned Nwoko has paid a glowing tribute to the late Senator Barrinada Mpigi, describing him as an exemplary public servant whose life was marked by integrity, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people.

He spoke during a solemn burial ceremony in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The funeral, which drew a large turnout of mourners from within and beyond Rivers State, was marked by an atmosphere of grief, reflection, and celebration of a life widely regarded as impactful and principled.

Traditional rulers, political associates, community leaders, and residents gathered to honour the late senator, whose influence extended across political and grassroots communities.

In a statement issued after the ceremony, Nwoko said the event served as a profound reminder of the transient nature of life and the enduring value of purposeful leadership.

“It was a solemn and deeply reflective moment,” he said. “While life is transient, the legacy of service, integrity, and commitment to one’s people endures. Late Senator Barrinada Mpigi lived such a life.”

The high-profile ceremony was attended by key figures in Nigeria’s political landscape, including the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and Minister of Works, David Umahi, alongside other federal lawmakers and dignitaries who came to pay their last respects.

Reflecting on the life and character of the deceased, Nwoko described Mpigi as a dependable and steadfast leader who remained committed to the progress of his constituency and the unity of the nation throughout his years of service.

He noted that the late senator earned respect across political divides for his calm disposition, principled stance on issues, and ability to foster consensus.

According to Nwoko, the late lawmaker exemplified a rare brand of leadership defined not by rhetoric, but by tangible impact and dedication to public good.

He пoted that Mpigi’s legacy as a bridge builder and patriot would continue to inspire both current leaders and future generations.

The senator also used the occasion to stress the importance of values-driven leadership in Nigeria, noting that the life of the deceased offers a benchmark for public office holders seeking to make meaningful contributions to society.
