Amnesty Programme Heading For A Crash Under Boroh’s Watch – Ex-militant Leader

Chairman Phase II of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in Delta State, Mr. Kingsley Muturu has said the programme may collapse soon under the watch of its Coordinator, Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd).

This followed the alleged shielding of Boroh by close aides from useful information that could turn things around for the programme, the ex-militant leader said.

Speaking to newsmen in Bomadi, Muturu lamented that himself and other leaders of Phase II of the Amnesty Programme, went to Abuja to see Gen Boroh only for them to be directed to see the Chief of Staff and other Security agencies.

“Several months after that meeting, our expressed reservations on how the programme is being run have not been addressed nor are efforts made by Gen. Boroh to reach out to the people with explanations”, Muturu stated, adding: “The implication is that either the close aides were shielding him from the truths we told or he decided to ignore truth-telling”.

“You find a situation where trainings earmarked for three months or more are done in just a month while people lined for degree programmes are invited for a one-month training in one Agricultural programme or the other. How can real objectives be achieved when contractors or vendors are not called to order in these circumstances. It is sad Gen. Boroh does not care about complaints”, he informed.

“Our efforts to reach him is to give him an opportunity to correct errors in our desire to exhaust internal mechanism for solving problems which should not be interpreted to mean that we do not know how to reach higher authorities to his embarrassment”, Muturu stressed.

“Our agitations as leaders have stabilised this Presidential Amnesty Programme and ex-militants remain the targets of the programme. The likes of Gen. Paul Boroh were only brought on board to run the programme and can succeed only if they listen to facts from the real targets. Strange elements have been allowed into the programme who have no business with it and have gotten the attention instead of Gen. Boroh”, he regretted.

Muturu advised Gen Boroh to run an open-door policy and be accessible instead of allowing himself to be shielded from the real people he is meant to serve for the betterment of the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

Muturu, a Peace Ambassador also condemned the alleged kidnap in Enekorogha, recently, of expatriates in free medical services of the people of the Niger Delta. He described the action of the kidnapers as evil and tasked all men of goodwill to prevail on the captors to kindly release them.
