Palpable tension has gripped residents of Ayakoromo community in Burutu Council Area of Delta State following the reported killing of a 48 year-old woman identified as Anetorufa Mokor and her son, Timi Enai, by gunmen suspected to be sea pirates.

Punch newspaper reports that the incident occurred on Monday night at a fishing camp located in Ayakoromo creek, where the two victims had gone for fishing that evening.

Sources told our correspondent the bandits, who came in 200-horsepower speedboat, repeatedly shot the deceased, who were preparing to embark on an evening fishing and ensured they died before leaving the scene.

The sources added that the woman’s son (Timi) was in his late 20s and had been fishing at the camp with his mother for years.

Giving details of the attack, one of the sources added, “They were in their fishing camp along Egolegbene creek preparing to embark on evening fishing expedition when they met their death. The tragic incident occurred yesterday around 10pm.”

It was further learnt that the arms-wielding attackers drowned the corpses of their victims before fleeing the scene.

The National President of Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, Mr. Austin Ozobo, who hails from the area, confirmed the development to our correspondent.

“The corpses have been recovered from the river. There was no crisis in the community before the killings. We are shocked by this senseless killings and the community has been thrown into tension,” Ozobo said.
