Armed Youths Attack Warri Community, Many Injured

The crisis rocking the oil rich Ugboegungun community in the Escravos axis of Delta State took a dangerous dimension on Friday as armed youth group launched attack against their opponents in the community.

The invaders were said to have stormed the community at dusk injuring many including the youth Chairman, Destiny Ododo.

The attack is coming following the unabated factional crisis in the community.

Source said the invaders shot sporadically as they stormed the community through the bush path after they were earlier repealed by a deployment of soldiers.

Local sources disclosed the rampaging youths had earlier in the day attempted to invade the community but where stopped by the military operatives at Arunton who wade them off.

The heavily armed invading group however took another route, hid in the bush till it was dark enough to access the serene community and launch their attacks that saw many youths injured, the source said.

Among those injured was the youth Chairman who is currently lying in critical condition at Cyracus Hospital after first aid treatment  in Escravos. Several indigenes of the community are said to have scampered into the bush fwhen the invaders came.

Recalls that the Olu of Warri Kingdom, His Majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli had waded into the community fracas on Thursday, cautioning the factions to sheathe their sword and not attack each other pending when they reconvene on Monday to resolve the matter but the invaders reportedly disrespected the monarch and launched their attacks.
