Borno Police Impound 78 Vehicles With Unregistered Number Plates, Charges Offenders to Court

The Borno State Police Command has impounded seventy-eight vehicles operating without registration number plates, as well as those with concealed, altered, defaced, or otherwise obscured number plates in the state.

The crackdown came on backdrop of directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to the state Police Command.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, in a statement on Thursday, stated that since the commencement of the exercise on 10th June 2026, the Command has impounded a total of seventy-eight (78) vehicles found in violation of the law.

He said that the owners and operators of the affected vehicles have been duly processed, with appropriate cases already charged before competent courts in accordance with extant laws.

Daso said that the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, stated that the enforcement exercise is a proactive crime prevention strategy aimed at improving public safety.

He said the exercise was mearnt to enhancing intelligence gathering, and denying criminal elements the opportunity to exploit unregistered or improperly identified vehicles in the commission of crimes.

The Commissioner reiterated that the exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to ensure strict compliance with existing traffic and security regulations.

He urged all vehicle owners to regularize the registration of their vehicles and ensure that approved registration number plates are properly displayed at all times.

The Command further assures members of the public that the enforcement will continue to be conducted professionally, fairly, and with due respect for the rights of all citizens. Motorists are advised to comply with the law to avoid sanctions.

The police command, he said remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the good people of Borno State in supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening public safety and security.
