Dr. Abassi: New Study Suggests Men Should Ejaculate 21 Times a Month to Lower Prostate Cancer Risk

A Lagos-based urologist, Dr. Rasheed Abassi of Heritage Men’s Clinic, has sparked widespread discussion after recommending that men ejaculate at least 21 times per month as part of efforts to maintain prostate health.

‎Speaking on The Morayo Show, Dr. Abassi referenced a 2016 study involving more than 31,000 men, which found that individuals who ejaculated 21 or more times monthly had a 20–31 percent lower risk of developing prostate cancer compared to those who ejaculated between four and seven times per month.

‎According to the specialist, regular ejaculation—whether through sexual intercourse or masturbation—may contribute to reducing the risk of certain prostate-related conditions and improving overall male reproductive health.

‎However, medical researchers have cautioned that the findings establish an association rather than a direct cause-and-effect relationship. Experts note that other factors, including diet, lifestyle, genetics, and overall health habits, may play a significant role in influencing prostate cancer risk.

‎The comments have generated mixed reactions online and within medical circles. While some praised the discussion for helping to break long-standing taboos surrounding men’s sexual health, others argued that the evidence should be presented with greater caution to avoid overstating potential health benefits.

‎Health professionals continue to emphasize the importance of regular medical check-ups, healthy nutrition, exercise, and early screening as key measures in preventing prostate disease and promoting overall well-being.
