Isoko South Boss, Warri Flags off War against Illicit Drugs Abuse

Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of the State, Friday Ovoke Warri has commenced war against illicit drugs and drug abuse across the council in line with new directives of Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Warri who reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for use of illicit drugs in the local government council, warned that the use of illicit drugs and its abuse is highly prohibited in the area.

The council chairman who led a combined team of political class of the Isoko South and some selected leaders on a campaign tour of war against illicit drugs handed down the warning Monday at Erowa community, oldest clan of the Isoko nation and generally referred to as the father of the Isoko nation.

In his welcome address, President General of the Erowa community, Eloho, thanked the chairman’s team for their visit and expressed appreciation for visiting the community to inquire about their welfare.

The president general, however, catches on the opportunity to submit specific requests such as upgrading of their health facility that has been abandoned to save them the stress of traveling to Patani and Ughelli for medical treatments, additional teachers for the community’s primary school and the opening of new streets for the community.

At Umeh community, the people made similar requests to that of Erowa such as the opening of streets, a health centre, and the possible creation of a daily market for Umeh.

At Enwhe and Okpolo-Enwhe communities, the people requested attention should be placed on healthcare, supply and installation of transformers to augment the expanding community of Enwhe, and collaborative security efforts between the local government and local vigilant group.

Addressing the various communities, the Isoko South council chairman, Warri reaffirmed his dedication to combating the scourge of drugs, emphasizing that eliminating the menace is a core policy of the Delta State government.

“Let’s reduce substance abuse in our society; if you can’t address the issue directly, report it to us. In our society, we now have young boys tied down due to the debilitating effects of various abused substances. Tell those selling drugs, the government is seriously out for them,” Warri warned.

On the various demands by the communities, Warri promised to do his utmost for Erowa, Umeh, Enwhe, and Okpolo-Enwhe communities, respectively, adding “I am grateful for the support and votes I received from all of you. While I cannot promise to fulfill all the requests made, rest assured that those I undertake will be visible. I have visited the health centres, primary schools and markets, and I will attend to them.” He stated.
