Election: NUJ NEC Passes Vote Of Confidence On Ikeogwu-led Credentials Committee

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has passed a vote of confidence on the Comrade Michael Ikeogwu-led National Credentials Committee for following due process in the discharge of it’s responsibilities as well as upholding the standards of the NUJ Constitution without prejudice.

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of the NUJ NEC Virtual meeting held on the 10th of November, 2024, presided over by the National President, Dr. Chris Isiguzo.

The communique was signed by Abubakar Musa Waziri, National Ex-Officio Zone E, Princess Ronke Samo VP Zone B and Mary Domtur,Secretary Plateau Council as members of Communique Drafting Committee respectively.

It reads; “COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS, NUJ HELD VIRTUALLY ON THE 10TH OF NOVEMBER 2024.

“After extensive deliberations on various issues, the house resolved as follows;

“1. NEC ratified the final delegates lists of councils ahead of the Triennial Delegate Conference in Owerri, Imo State between 26th and 28th of November, 2024.

“The house acknowledged the intervention of the Advisory Council, consisting of past leaders, in the various issues arising from the build up to the election and unanimously agreed to the resolutions and advice of the leaders.”

“NEC also ratified the final delegates lists of councils ahead of the Triennial Delegate Conference slated to hold in Owerri, Imo State, between 26th and 28th of November, 2024.

“NEC cautions candidates.for the forthcoming election and their supporters against campaign of calumny and unnecessary attacks on the leadership of the union in the name of campaign, just as it urges them to embark on issue based campaigns.

“NEC in session also approved the 16th November date for the conduct of Benue council election which will formally end the protracted crisis in the council.

According to the Communique,”NEC In session worried over the persistent rise in inflation and prolonged economic downturn, urging the Federal Government to adopt more drastic and realistic measures to address the ugly situation that has made life difficult for citizens.

“It also expressed dismay over the failure to pay the October salary of some federal workers including Radio Nigeria, describing such development as unacceptable considering the effect on the workers who are already been dealt with by the harsh economy.

“NEC extends its heartfelt condolences to the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigerian Army on the demise of the Chief of Army Staff, the late General Taoreed Lagbaja.”
