Ondo Businessman, Tolufe, Dies In Suspected Suicide After Recording Emotional Video

A prominent Ondo State businessman and owner of Esther Estate, Kayode Akinbolusere, popularly known as Tolufe, has died in a suspected suicide at his office in the Igba area of the state.
The 46-year-old businessman reportedly died on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance believed to be Sniper insecticide.
Before his death, Akinbolusere reportedly recorded a video in which he spoke about his personal struggles and announced his decision to bequeath his properties to his wife, Akinbolusere Esther, and their three children, who are based in Canada.
In the emotional video, which has since circulated on social media, the businessman said the decision to distribute his assets was entirely his and that nobody pressured him into making it.
He also acknowledged his wife’s support throughout his struggles, particularly during his early days as a barber when he had little or nothing.
According to him, his wife stood by him through difficult times and never gave him trouble despite the challenges they faced.
“My wife knew how I suffered. She didn’t trouble me. I will all my properties to my wife, Akinbolusere Esther, who hails from Ekiti, and my three children who are in Canada,” he said.
He further expressed regret over what he described as his own carelessness, which he believed had contributed to the difficulties he was experiencing.
Reacting to the incident, the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
The command said the deceased, who resided at Road 7, Housing Estate, Igba, was found dead in his office beside BOVAS Petrol Station in Igba Town at about 3pm on Thursday.
According to the police, officers attached to the Bolorunduro Division visited the scene after receiving information from members of the public.
Two empty bottles suspected to have contained Sniper insecticide were reportedly recovered from a nearby bush.
The police added that preliminary findings indicated that the deceased had allegedly recorded a video before his death, in which he spoke about his life struggles.
His remains were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Morgue for preservation and further examination.
The command said no visible marks of violence were observed on his body during the initial examination.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has ordered a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the actual cause of death.
He also appealed to members of the public to avoid speculation while the investigation was ongoing.
The police commissioner further encouraged individuals experiencing emotional distress, marital challenges or other personal difficulties to seek timely support and assistance rather than take actions that could endanger their lives.
