One of Edo’s Biggest Political Trees Has Fallen— Wike Mourns Dan Orbih

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mourned the death of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Daniel Orbih, describing it as a devastating personal loss.

Orbih, a prominent PDP chieftain in Edo State, died on Monday, August 31, 2026.

In a condolence message issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said he had lost “a friend and a committed political ally.”

Wike described Orbih as a dependable friend and a major figure in Edo politics whose death had created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.

“His death is the fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State,” Wike said.

The FCT Minister said Orbih would be greatly missed by his family, political associates, friends and admirers, adding that his death was a painful loss to both his family and the political community.

“We can’t question God. He gives and He takes,” Wike said.

He expressed condolences to the Orbih family, describing the deceased as “a good friend, a great politician, and a man of faith in the Almighty God.”

“May his soul rest in peace,” he added.

Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence Orbih; his children, Winifred Orbih and Dr. Mildred Orbih; and other family members.
