How APC Chairman Was Shot Dead in Kogi, One Abducted

More details have emerged how gunmen reportedly waylaid and shot dead Hon. ishaq Yunusa, the Chairman of All Progressives Congress APC in Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

The attackers also abducted one occupant of his vehicle.

The attack occurred at about 5pm on Thursday along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, near Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists in Lokoja on Friday.

According to Saliu, the assailants emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists along the highway.

A blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH was later discovered abandoned on the road.

The police spokesperson said Yunusa, who was driving the vehicle, was found dead inside, while another occupant was forcibly taken into the bush by the attackers.

“The driver, identified as Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, was found dead in the vehicle, while another occupant was taken into the bush by the assailants,” the statement said.

Saliu said the deceased was evacuated to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for autopsy, while security agencies have launched a coordinated operation to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible.

She added that police personnel and other security operatives were combing the surrounding forests and pursuing all available leads to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, directed security personnel to sustain operations along the affected corridor and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The command also urged motorists and residents in the area to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the police or other security agencies.
