Election Tension: Davido Alleges Soldiers Blocking His Entry Into Osun

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as the state holds its governorship election on Saturday.

Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, made the allegation in a post on his verified X account early Saturday.

“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”

The singer’s claim comes amid a movement restriction imposed across Osun State as part of security measures for the election. The Nigeria Police Force announced that movement would be restricted from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.

Thousands of police officers and other security personnel have been deployed across the state to maintain security during the poll.

Davido has openly supported his uncle’s re-election bid under the Accord Party and has been actively involved in his campaign. Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term and faces challengers including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, among others.

The singer’s allegation quickly sparked reactions online, with some social media users arguing that security personnel may simply be enforcing the announced election-day movement restrictions. Others, however, questioned whether the restrictions were being selectively applied to the high-profile singer.

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed Davido’s claim as “dramatic,” arguing that the movement restriction had already been publicly announced as part of the election security arrangements.

Ahmad said freedom of movement does not exempt citizens from complying with lawful security measures introduced to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

The controversy comes as voters across Osun State head to the polls to choose their governor in the closely watched off-cycle election.
