‎The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, in the sum of ₦2 billion over his ongoing trial for alleged money laundering involving $2.33 million.

‎Justice I.E. Ekwo, who delivered the ruling on Monday, ordered that Bodejo must produce two responsible sureties in like sum. The court stipulated that one of the sureties must own landed property within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), while another must provide valid tax clearance certificates for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 tax years.

‎The judge further directed the court’s Registrar to verify all documents and particulars submitted by the sureties before the bail conditions can be deemed fulfilled.

‎As part of the bail conditions, Bodejo was ordered to surrender his international passport to the court.

Justice Ekwo also directed the Registrar to notify the Nigeria Immigration Service of the passport’s seizure and barred the defendant from travelling outside Nigeria or beyond the court’s jurisdiction without prior approval.

‎The court subsequently adjourned the case to October 5, 6 and 7, 2026, for the continuation of trial.

‎Bodejo was arraigned on July 9, 2026, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 12-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering involving $2.33 million.

According to the EFCC, the charges include allegations that Bodejo knowingly accepted cash payments exceeding the statutory threshold without processing the transactions through a financial institution, contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended).

‎One of the charges alleges that on January 11, 2022, Bodejo accepted $100,000 in cash from Sa’idu Abubakar, a former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, without routing the transaction through a financial institution as required by law.

‎The anti-graft agency maintains that the alleged transaction violated the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and is seeking to prove the allegations during the trial.

‎Bodejo has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the case is expected to continue in October.
