Ogun 2027: Yayi Accuses Opposition of Pursuing Personal Interests

on

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Ogun State election, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has accused some opposition politicians of pursuing personal ambitions rather than the collective interest of the state.

Adeola made the remarks during a meeting with the Council of Iyalajes and Babaalajes (market leaders) in Remoland, held at his senatorial office in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area.

The APC candidate also addressed allegations by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello that he failed to reimburse campaign expenses she reportedly incurred before his emergence as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.

Describing the allegation as “insulting,” Adeola alleged that Obasanjo-Bello’s political decisions were motivated by personal gain rather than commitment to the APC or the development of Ogun State.

“Asking me to refund what you spent on the electioneering campaign is insulting to me. You left the party not because it wronged you, but because you were offered money. You are not a party person. Your intention is driven by personal interest and not the interest of Ogun State,” he said.

‎Adeola explained that he had earlier reached out to Obasanjo-Bello as part of his post-primary reconciliation efforts because he believed she was committed to the state’s progress. He, however, alleged that she later aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

The senator also dismissed the legal challenge against his emergence as the APC governorship candidate, describing it as politically motivated.

‎He further argued that politicians who defected from the APC after May 10, 2026, were not eligible to contest the 2027 governorship election, citing what he described as existing legal provisions and previous court decisions.

‎”We all know when these people left the APC for the PDP. By law, anyone who crossed over after May 10, 2026, is only wasting his or her time. We are waiting for them,” Adeola said.

He also questioned the organisational strength of the PDP in Ogun State, maintaining that the opposition party was still grappling with internal leadership disputes.

Meanwhile, the Council of Iyalajes and Babaalajes in Remoland, led by its President, Chief Mrs. Olufunke Oyelaja, endorsed Adeola’s governorship ambition.

‎The Nation report that market leaders expressed confidence in his candidacy, citing his support for traders through the construction of modern markets and empowerment programmes for market women across Ogun State.
