US to Closely Monitor Nigeria’s 2027 Elections, Warns of Tougher Conditions for Bilateral Ties

A member of the  United States House of Representatives, Riley Moore, has disclosed that the administration of Donald Trump will closely monitor how Nigeria conducts its 2027 general elections.

The US Congressman Moore, made the remarks during an interview with NoireTV published on Sunday, stating that the United States is committed to observing both the conduct and outcome of Nigeria’s next general election.

According to him, Washington will be paying close attention to the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.

“We’re certainly going to be watching these results and how these elections unfold and how they’re executed. That’s something that myself and the administration are going to be paying very close attention to,” Moore said.

The US lawmaker also revealed that the United States House of Representatives is considering an appropriations bill with provisions affecting Nigeria, particularly on issues relating to religious freedom and US security assistance.

Moore explained that the proposed legislation, including a bill sponsored by Chris Smith, contains provisions addressing the persecution of Christians, possible restrictions on security assistance to Nigeria, and conditions the Nigerian government would be expected to meet.
