Oh Asamaigor: Joel-Onowakpo Mourns Uduaghan, Says I Lost My Political Father

The Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, has mourned the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing him as his political father, leader and benefactor.
Uduaghan died on Monday morning, October 19, 2026, at the age of 71, according to a family statement signed by Toju Anire Uduaghan.
In a tribute titled “Oh Asamaigor: Mourning the Departure of my Father, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan,” Joel-Onowakpo said he received the news with immeasurable grief and profound sorrow.
He said his entire journey in public service was charted by Uduaghan’s kindness, trust and visionary leadership.
“Out of the kindness of his heart, after the 2007 elections, he appointed me as the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government, marking the beginning of my public service career. In 2009, that same father, in his wisdom, appointed me as the first Executive Chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue,” the Senator said.
Joel-Onowakpo noted that under Uduaghan’s leadership as Governor from 2007 to 2015, he pursued his transformative three-point agenda of Human Capital Development, Infrastructure Development and Peace and Security.
He said Uduaghan was a leader who did not just build infrastructure but built people, with exceptional ability to nurture talent.
“Even beyond office, his mentorship never ceased. When I sought guidance on contesting for a seat in the National Assembly, he provided not only advice but also steadfast support,” he added.
The Senator said Deltans have lost a detribalised leader, Isoko nation has lost a true friend, while he has lost the man who considered his growth as his personal responsibility.
He extended condolences to his wife, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan, his children, the Uduaghan family of Abigborodo, the people of Warri North and Delta State.
He prayed that Almighty God will grant his soul eternal rest.
