The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has ordered the detention of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential hopeful representing the African Action Congress (AAC), at Kuje Correctional Facility.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued a brief ruling, directing that Sowore remain in custody while awaiting the outcome of his motion to stay the revocation of his bail and the bench warrant issued against him.

The court also dismissed Sowore’s previous request for the judge to recuse himself, citing alleged bias as the basis for the application.

The judge subsequently adjourned proceedings until June 24 to allow for a ruling on the motion for stay.

Sowore, known for founding Sahara Reporters, arrived at the courtroom flanked by supporters holding placards.

The court had earlier revoked Sowore’s bail on June 16 after he failed to appear for his trial. During the session, Justice Umar also granted a bench warrant for Sowore’s arrest, following an oral application by DSS prosecutor Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN.
