‎Lagos Police Debunk Kidnap Claims on Late DCP Khan Salihu, Demand Retraction

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading reports alleging that the late Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Khan Salihu, was kidnapped by suspected criminals before his death.

‎In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, described the publication as a fabrication with no factual basis.

‎According to the Command, DCP Salihu was never abducted at any point prior to his death. Rather, he reportedly complained of feeling unwell and was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention, where doctors later confirmed him dead.

‎“The report is entirely false, misleading, and a complete fabrication with no basis in fact whatsoever,” the statement said.

‎The Command expressed concern over what it described as the publication of an unverified story by a recognised media platform without seeking confirmation from the appropriate authorities. It noted that the report had misled the public and caused unnecessary distress to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased senior police officer.

‎The police further described the publication as insensitive, particularly at a time when relatives and associates of the late officer are mourning his passing.

‎Consequently, the Lagos State Police Command called on the media organisation responsible for the report to immediately withdraw the story and issue a public correction and apology.

‎The Command also urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely solely on information released through its official communication channels.

‎SP Adebisi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating misinformation and ensuring the dissemination of accurate, timely, and verified information to the public.

‎DCP Khan Salihu was remembered by the Command as a dedicated and accomplished officer who served the nation with distinction.
