‎Appeal Court Faults Justice Lifu, Suspends Judgment Deregistering ADC, Four Other Parties

Published

on

The Court of Appeal has suspended the execution of a Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, which ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.

Accordding to AIT, in a brief ruling, the appellate court criticized the lower court’s decision, describing the situation as “the highest form of judicial impertinence.” The court held that the trial judge had acted in disregard of an earlier order issued by the Court of Appeal.

‎The affected political parties include the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action People’s Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Accord Party (AP).

‎According to the appellate court, the order suspending the execution of the judgment will remain in force pending the determination of the substantive appeal before it.

‎The ruling effectively preserves the legal status of the affected parties until the appellate court reaches a final decision on the matter.

‎Further details are expected as proceedings continue.
