UPDATED: Army’s Joint Security Team Arrest 46 Suspected Illegal Immigrants in Ogun

‎Troops of the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), have apprehended 46 suspected illegal immigrants during a coordinated security operation in Ogun State.

‎The operation, which began on June 11, 2026, was launched following actionable intelligence and targeted several locations in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and adjoining communities within the state.
‎
‎According to military authorities, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly been living in the area for about six months without valid immigration documents.
‎
‎During interrogation, the individuals reportedly identified themselves as merchants and workers linked to QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various products and services.
‎
‎The arrested suspects comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four Togolese nationals, and one Senegalese citizen. Security officials disclosed that the group consists of 36 males and 10 females.
‎
‎Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in line with existing immigration laws.
‎
‎Speaking on the development, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and collaborating security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance throughout the operation.
‎
‎He also urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities or individuals to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to maintaining security.
‎
‎Military authorities described the operation as a reflection of the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to tackling illegal migration, strengthening internal security, and protecting Nigeria’s national interests.
