Warri South-West APC Members Protest Delta Assembly APC Screening Outcome, Petition Tinubu

An internal crisis is brewing within Warri South-West chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) following the outcome of the party’s screening exercise for Delta State House of Assembly aspirants.

Outraged party members have taken to the streets to condemn the screening committee’s decision to disqualify Andrew Omagbemi Igban, a high-profile contender for the Warri South-West Constituency seat in the State House of Assembly.

​Representing six Itsekiri political wards—including Ugborodo, Ajudiabo, Akpakpa, Ogidigben, Madangho, and Orere—the demonstrators launched a peaceful but highly critical protest, labeling the screening outcome as both dictatorial and a direct assault on internal party democracy.

In a formal petition co-signed by grassroot leaders Prince E. Etuwewe, Anibi Eyedisan, and Joseph Egiri, the aggrieved members appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the crisis.

​The letter, explicitly titled “Letter of Protest to Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Regarding Unjust Disqualification of Our Chosen Aspirant for the Delta State House of Assembly, Warri South-West,” accused party elites of engineering an unfair exclusion.

They argued that bypassing the democratic process deprives loyal party faithful of their right to elect a representative of their choice.

​The core of the protesters’ grievance centers on an alleged breach of party’s protocol. According to the petition, the screening committee discarded established electoral guidelines and disqualified Igban without providing a valid justification.

“We see this injustice as oppression by our party leaders, as the screening process guidelines were not followed, and the electoral process was disregarded.

“This is unfair to us as a people with a voice in selecting our representatives because democracy is a freedom for everyone,” the petition read.

The protesters however issued a stark warning to the party’s hierarchy, saying that ignoring their protest as grassroots mobilizers could lead to widespread disenfranchisement and fracture party unity ahead of the critical 2027 general elections.

The petitioners maintained that despite their grievances, they remained loyal to the APC and reaffirmed their commitment to the party as their preferred political platform.

“We remain loyal to the party as our choice vehicle to serve our constituent,” the signatories stated while appealing for urgent presidential intervention.
