Police Disrupt Initiation Activities, Arrest Female Cultist, Three Others in Delta
..Recover weapons, cartridges, illicit drugs
Operatives of Ibusa Police station of the Delta State Police Command, have arrested three suspected cultists, including a female after disrupting their initiation activities along Jordan Road, Ibusa, Delta State.
The development followed a report on April 12 that a suspected cult initiation involving one Chinedu Onyeama (now at large) and members of a cult group known as Aiye, was reportedly taking place in the area.
Confirming this in a statement on Monday, Delta Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, said upon receipt of the intelligence, operatives attached to Ibusa Police station swiftly mobilised to Jordan Road, Ibusa where the three suspects, including a female were arrested.
Edafe said that a search conducted at the premises resulted in the recovery of one English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and thirty-nine firelighters.
The suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, he added.
This comes as a suspected leader of a notorious cult group, was also arrested by operatives of Delta Shield attached to the Delta State Police Command in in separate operation.
The suspect identified as Peter Onajite, aged 32, was intercepted on April 11, by the police while on surveillance patrol at Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area of the state.
SP Edafe, said that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made double barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, as well as sachets of suspected Tramadol.
He said that during preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of Juris Confraternity.
The suspect is currently in custody, while investigation is ongoing, Edafe added.
In his remarks, the Delta State commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that the Police will continue to clamp down on cult-related activities and other violent crimes.
