Delta Community in Fear as Thugs Attack Construction Site, Injure Several Persons

Fear has gripped residents and indigenes of Ugborikoko community in Uvwie local government area of Delta state as a notorious group of youths launched a brutal attack on residents and workers at a construction site, leaving several persons injured and instilling fear in the community.

Local sources from the area alleged that the thugs descended on workers at a construction site of a modern market by Ugborikoko Primary School, along Airport Road, Ugborikoko, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The invaders reportedly attacked the site supervisor, Kabi Ogolor, Cletus Agadi, Victor Osiyebo and Martins Akporehe, Mediyite Akporehe-Okirororo (Mrs), Solomon Akporehe who are relatives of former Delta State House of Assembly minority leader, Hon. Gibson Akporehe.

One residents who gave his name as Rukevwe, told newsmen that the elder brother of the former Assembly minority leader, Martins Akporehe was held hostage with his hands bound behind and tied to a pole at the youth secretariat in Ugborikoko, while Martins’ elder daughter named Ese was mercilessly beaten and his worker, Cletus Agadi was beaten to the point of death for questioning the action.

“They equally robbed them of their handsets and money. A complaint was lodged at Ugborikoko Division, Area Command and Force headquarters Abuja. The Effurun Area Command acted but within two hours of arrest of one of the culprits, Kelvin Egere, the Uvwie council chairman Anthony Ofoni came and directed the Area Commander to release the suspect immediately when investigation had barely started.

“An action which confirmed rumours making the rounds that these boys who committed the violent crimes and robbed innocent people acted at the behest of Anthony Ofoni. It was a deal the council chairman struck with the Area Commander Shaba Aliyu”, Rukevwe alleged.

In a petition from Eagles Law Office, signed by E. Akporehe-John (Mrs) Esq., addressed to the Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Effurun Area Command, Ekpan, ACP Alihu Shaba, the suspected hoodlums led by one Randy Omovie, had allegedly stormed the ongoing construction site of the modern Ugborikoko Market on March 16, 2026, armed with guns, machetes, and other deadly weapons.

The petition entitled “Attempted Murder Armed Robbery Attempted Rape Assault Occassioning Harm And Acts Of Terrorism”, dated March, 18, 2026, alleged that the invaders assaulted one Mr. Kabi Ogolor, a supervisor on the project, with battle axes and cudgels, inflicting grievous injuries on him.

The attack, according to the petition resulted in the theft of valuables, including a gold necklace worth N6.8 million, cash, and a shirt valued at N120,000.

The injured victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The petitioners , also claimed that two days later, on March 18, 2026, the same gang struck again, launching a coordinated attack that resulted in the kidnapping of several residents, including Hon. Martins Akporehe, Mediyite Akporehe-Okirororo (Mrs), Cletus Agadi, Victor Osiyebo, and Solomon Akporehe.

The victims, according to the petition were forcibly taken to a hideout within Ugborikoko, where they were subjected to heinous acts of violence.

“Hon. Martins was beaten severely, sustaining injuries to his neck, chest, and other parts of his body. Mediyite Akporehe-Okirororo was assaulted and attempted to be raped, while others suffered deep machete cuts and serious injuries”, the petition alleged.

The petitooners claimed that the invaders reportedly boasted that they would continue their reign of terror, warning that nothing would happen to them.

The community, law enforcement, and the victims’ families are demanding urgent action to apprehend and prosecute the culprits.

The petition emphasizes that these acts are clear violations of Nigeria’s Criminal Code and the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

“In the circumstances, we urge you to use your good offices to ensure a thorough investigation of the matter to ensure that the culprits are prosecuted according to law”, the petition reads.

Calls and messenge sent to the Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Effurun Area Command, Ekpan, Shaba Aliyu were rebuffed as at the time of filing this report.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe were not responded to as at press time.

Meanwhile, residents of Ugborikoko community remain in fear, calling for swift intervention to restore peace and security in the community.
