Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has expressed delight after successfully leading stakeholders on a public hearing on his bill seeking to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, into the Federal University of Technology, Asaba.
The hearing, organized by the Senate Committee on TETFund and Tertiary Institutions, drew enthusiastic support from stakeholders across Delta State and beyond.
Constituents, education advocates, and community leaders turned out in large numbers at the National Assembly in Abuja, echoing strong backing for the proposed upgrade.
“This upgrade is not just about a name change, it’s about opportunity, innovation, jobs, and the future of science and technology education in Delta and beyond,” Senator Nwoko said during the event.
“The South-South deserves a Federal University of Technology, and with your continued support, we are one step closer to making it a reality.”
Senator Nwoko expressed deep gratitude to the Senate Committee for their professionalism and attention to detail, and to his constituents for their passionate participation.
He emphasized that the transformation would bring far-reaching benefits, including greater access to quality higher education and a boost to local economic development.
The bill represents a significant step forward in expanding Nigeria’s technological education infrastructure, particularly in underserved regions.
When passed, the institution will become the first Federal University of Technology in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
“The journey continues,” Senator Nwoko said. “But today, we moved forward — together.”
