SENATOR NED NWOKO’S 2-YEAR ACHIEVEMENTS OUTSHINE NWAOBOSHI’S 8-YEAR TENURE: WHY HE DWARFED HIM

In the political landscape of Delta North, Senator Ned Nwoko has emerged as a transformative figure whose achievements within a mere two years in office far outweigh those of his predecessor, Peter Nwaoboshi, who served for eight years.

Nwoko’s current two years as the representative of Delta North in the Nigerian Senate has been marked by significant strides in infrastructure development, empowerment initiatives, and advocacy for his constituents, leading many to question how such a short period in office could yield such remarkable results.

One of such remarkable experience was a remark made by Seun Okinbaloye of Channel’s Television. During an interview on Channel’s TV, Okinbaloye told Senator Ned Nwoko that the bills and motions he has moved both for his constituency and the nation are more than what some lawmakers move in a full tenure or even eight years. Okinbaloye is a TV anchor man whom everyone knows spares not even the most mighty of his interviewees. But he openly told Nwoko that he has performed beyond expectations in less than two years.

Infrastructure Development

One of the most visible areas where Senator Ned Nwoko has made significant impact is in infrastructure development. Delta North, which has long struggled with inadequate infrastructure, especially in rural areas, has seen a noticeable shift during Nwoko’s time in the Senate. Nwoko has been a strong advocate for the development of roads, healthcare facilities, schools, and water supply systems. His commitment to the physical development of Delta North communities is exemplified by the moves he has made for the construction of roads.

One of such significant roads is the Asaba-Oko-Aboh road which will run through to Patani. Senator Ned Nwoko revealed that the road has been injected into the 2025 project of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). This road, according to him, will cost not less than N28bn.

The people in those communities suffer recurrent flooding on a yearly basis, a development which sends the people packing annually. But Senator Ned Nwoko is determined to put an end to this recurring flood menace. By addressing this challenge, which had hindered the economic and social growth of rural communities, Nwoko will be empowering local farmers, traders, and other entrepreneurs by improving access to markets and other essential services.

In contrast, Peter Nwaoboshi, who served for eight years, made no progress in terms of infrastructure development. Many of the promises made during Nwaoboshi’s time in office remain unfulfilled, and the state of infrastructure in Delta North remained largely the same during his eight years stint in the Senate. Nwoko’s approach to development is far more expansive and tangible in comparison. The impact of Nwoko’s infrastructural projects is already visible in several communities, with roads being repaired and new ones built. The repair of the Asaba-Benin highway is another milestone achievement of Senator Ned Nwoko.

Empowerment Programs

Another area where Nwoko has made significant strides is in the empowerment of the people of Delta North. He has implemented a number of programs aimed at alleviating poverty, creating jobs, and promoting entrepreneurship. His initiatives include the provision of scholarships to students and creating job opportunities for graduates. He has consistently announced openings in various parastatals and asked graduates to apply and forward to him for onward pursuits. Many have gotten jobs and are happy earning a living for themselves, courtesy of Senator Ned Nwoko. These programs have had a direct positive impact on the lives of many in the region, with numerous young people benefiting from his educational opportunities.

Peter Nwaoboshi, during his time in office, did not leave a comparable legacy of empowerment. While some individuals and cronies may have benefited from limited schemes, the scope and reach of Nwaoboshi’s empowerment initiatives were relatively narrow. Furthermore, there was little evidence of a comprehensive, long-term strategy for tackling the systemic issues that affect Delta North’s economic landscape. Nwoko, on the other hand, has demonstrated a clear vision for the economic upliftment of his people, using his position to address both immediate needs and long-term development goals.

The Okpai power plant and Ogwashi Uku dam are projects that Senator Nwoko holds dear to his heart. He has assured that he will pursue these projects to completion before he leaves office. During the eight years Nwaoboshi was in the senate, there was no mention of any of these, let alone a move to get them achieved for the benefits of the people of Delta North.

Political Advocacy and Representation

Senator Nwoko has also excelled in his role as a political advocate for Delta North, consistently using his position to push for the interests of his people at the national level. Nwoko has not only worked diligently to secure federal support for the region but has also used his voice in the Senate to advocate for policies that will benefit the people of the region. His active involvement in national legislation on issues such as education, healthcare, and security demonstrates his commitment to advancing the interests of his constituents.

Peter Nwaoboshi, during his tenure, was often criticized for not being as vocal or assertive in representing the needs of Delta North at the national level. There were complaints about his lack of involvement in critical debates, as well as his limited ability to leverage his political influence to secure projects and resources for the region. While Nwaoboshi served in the Senate for eight years, many constituents felt that his influence did not translate into tangible results for Delta North.

Humanitarian Efforts and Charity Work

One of the standout aspects of Senator Nwoko’s tenure has been his commitment to humanitarian efforts. Through the Ned Nwoko Foundation, the Senator has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for his people. From providing clean water in communities to donating medical equipment to healthcare facilities, Nwoko’s philanthropic work has had a direct and immediate impact on Delta North. On water supply, he has sunk boreholes powered by solar energy in both Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North and Umunede in Ika North east local government areas of his constituency.

Nwaoboshi, by contrast, did not have a comparable philanthropic profile. While he may have made personal contributions to charity, there was no organized, sustained effort to address the broader humanitarian needs of Delta North through a structured initiative.

In just two years, Senator Ned Nwoko has proven to be a catalyst for change in Delta North. His achievements in infrastructure, empowerment, political advocacy, and humanitarian work have made a profound difference in the lives of his constituents. In comparison, Peter Nwaoboshi’s eight years in office are marked by limited progress and unmet promises, leaving many to question whether the region truly benefited from his leadership. While Nwoko’s time in office is still relatively short, his achievements stand as a testament to his commitment and ability to deliver tangible results for the people of Delta North.
