…As EFCC sets to grill Delta State Accountant General, others again

Indications have emerged that some officials of the Delta State Government including those not in office are now having high blood pressure and sleepless nights as Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intensified probe into the high-profile alleged N1.3 Trillion diversion petition.

Already, the Delta State Accountant General, Joy Enwa, and other top officials have been summoned by the EFCC for further questioning in January.

The development is part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged diversion of the whopping sum allegedly by former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Enwa, along with Ekeruche, former Director of Finance and Administration, and the Director of Administration, Government House, Asaba, were initially arrested and detained by the EFCC in December 2024.

They were later released, but are now expected to report back to the EFCC office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to report in SaharaReporters, their summon is part of ongoing investigation of Okowa for allegedly diverting funds meant for oil-rich communities in the state which accrued from the 13 percent derivative funds.

He was arrested and detained in November 2024 and was accused of using his office to acquire assets worth N1.3 trillion, including shares in UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Company.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Enwa and others are likely to be detained again after further questioning.

Some workers at the office of the Accountant General, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mrs. Enwa and others shall be reporting back to the EFCC office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for more questioning on the alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion state funds by the former governor.

“Madam Enwa’s blood pressure is getting higher every day because of the issue. She is so restless. She never saw this coming at all. In fact, all of them are not happy with former governor Ifeanyi Okowa because, according to them, they cannot be suffering for the sins of one man who was busy eating alone with his kinsmen to the detriment of other senatorial districts in the state,” one of the workers said.

“I think they have resolved to say all they know about the matter to the commission.”, the report reads.

Enwa declined comment when contacted by SaharaReporters but accused the reporter saying, “I think you have a mission. Please you shouldn’t be asking me any question, I have told you what to do. I will appreciate you if you go to the source and get your information.”
