Delta Council Boss Commences Payment Of New Minimum Wage, Issues 90 Day Deadline To Clear Illegal Structures

Chairman of Isoko North council, Delta state, Godwin Ogorugba has announced the commencement of payment of the new minimum wage to workers beginning from the month of November.

Ogorugba disclosed this at the ongoing screening of Isoko North teachers at the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) hall in Ozoro, headquarters of the council>

He noted that the screening is not intended as a punitive measure but to help the local government prepare a template for implementing the new minimum wage, as directed by governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The council boss thanked and commended the Delta state Local Government Commission’s chairman Joseph Otiwe and his team for embarking on the screening exercise even as he expressed gratitude to the council’s workforce, including both civil and public servants, for their support during his election.

Ogorugba called for continued unity, cooperation, and support to accomplish set goals of his administration.

Speaking at the screening exercise, chairman of the Delta state Local Government Commission, Joseph Otirhu who was at the council to oversee the screening commended the group’s dedication to improving primary education and urged patience among those awaiting screening.

He expressed gratitude to Godwin Ogorugba led administration for his support in this initiative.

In another development, Isoko North Local Government has issued a 90-day ultimatum to owners of illegal structures and traders operating along key routes, including the Ozoro-Kwale road, NDC, Ala Square through Hospital road, Ozoro-Oleh, Urude road, and the Ozoro-Owhelogbo road, among other major roads in the Ozoro area to remove them or face demolition.

Giving the directives during the inauguration of the Environmental Task Force recently by the council chairman, Godwin Ogorugba, stated that failure to adhere to the directive, the council shall commence demolition of such illegal structures starting from January 2025.

“After this period, non-compliance will result in the demolition of unauthorized structures and the seizure of goods. The task force. The measure is crucial for maintaining public safety, order, and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Traders have been strongly advised to move to designated areas, as this directive is final and non-negotiable.”

The task force which has Emmanuel Evuera as chairman has seven members.

Present at the inauguration ceremony was the Secretary to the Local Government, Vote Umukoro and other supervisory councillors of the local government.
