Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been summoned by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja over alleged criminal breach of trust and possession of unlawfully acquired property.

The summons, issued by Justice Maryann E. Anenih on October 3, 2024, accuses Bello of committing offenses between 2016 and 2023, violating Section 311 of the Penal Code Law.

Bello is accused of possessing property suspected to have been obtained through unlawful means and faces charges of criminal breach of trust, punishable under Section 312.

The EFCC revealed the summons on Friday, stating that Bello must appear in court on November 14, 2024.

“A complaint has been made on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that you, Yahaya Adoza Bello, sometimes within the year 2016 up until 2023… did commit offences to wit: criminal breach of trust… and having possession or control of property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained,” the summons partly reads.

This development comes after the EFCC filed fresh charges against Bello, alleging N110 billion fraud.

Bello is already facing 19-count charges bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80,246,470,089.88.
