The chairman of Isoko South local government area of Delta State, Friday Ovoke Warri, has warned teachers in the local government council who refused deployment to place of primary assignment, especially in the riverine communities.

The chairman gave the warning recently when he received on courtesy visit the people of Ikpide-irri riverine community, under the umbrella of Concerned Indigenes Of Ikpide-Irri 4-Development (CIID), at his office in Oleh, headquaters of the local government area.

He said; “it’s not going to be business as usual. Any teacher posted to Ikpide-irri community or anywhere in the local government area and refused to go and resume duty and stay will be shown the way out. If you refused to report and stay there to work, just park your loads and leave the job, is as simple as that.”

He said that his administration would prioritize healthcare delivery, agriculture, education and security among other sectors.

“As a child when growing up, there used to be what we called dispensary in the villages where people are taken to for treatment before going to the hospitals in the city. By God’s grace, our administration will look into the area of health care delivery critically, especially making them more viable and effective where our people can go and get good treatment of any kind”.

Ovoke-Warri assured the people his administration’s commitment in providing social amenities such as pipe-borne water, solar street lights, learning desks for the Okugbe primary school among others.

“As a government we shall look into this and see how we can come to the aid of my beloved people of Ikpide-irri community.”

The council chairman, flanked by his vice, Theresa Ikrike, however called for massive support for his administration and the MORE agenda of governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

He urged the people to maintain peace and be law abiding, adding that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.

Earlier, Comrade Obruozie Tom Odiuzou flanked by ex-president general of Ikpide-irri Progress Union and leader of the delegation, Chief Joseph Ubeleke, on behalf of the CIID complained about lack of teachers in the primary school.

He noted that Ikpide-Irri riverine community is one of the largest communities of Irri Clan/Kingdom, Isoko South council of the state that has not gotten its fair share of social amenities from the three tiers of government.

“We are an agrarian community, specializes in the production of farm produce such as garri, starch, plantains, yams and peppers etc to guarantee food security in the state. Our about three thousand (3000) registered voters at the last general election is a bold statement that we are politically active people.

“Our Comrade chairman, sir, as your concerned citizens we acknowledged the fact that when the communities are developed in line with the MORE agenda of governor Sheriff Oborevwori you symbolize, Delta State advances and everyone is happy. Upon this, we graciously appeal to you to assist our beloved community in the following pressing areas:

“Ikpide Health-care Centre, the healthcare centre which provides primary health care for the local residents has collapsed and non-functional for some years now.

“Before now, about four nurses posted there, were working. As we speak, no medical/para medical personnel is working/known to be working at the healthcare centre and thereby making lkpide-Irri totally cut off from the rest of the state in terms of access to healthcare services. Last year, we lost a pregnant woman during labour but had to be rushed to Kaiama in Bayelsa state where every local goes now for health care. We passionately appeal to you to do everything in your power to make our Healthcare centre functional again.

“Solar Street Lights, as part of the rural transformation of the governor ‘s M.O.R.E agenda, we earnestly appeal for the inclusion of lkpide-Irri in the solar street lights scheme to enhance rural livelihood, lifestyle, improve the serene environment and keep criminal elements in check.

“Sir, it might interest you to know that, Ikpide-irri is the only Delta state riverine community along the River Niger in the midst of other communities under Bayelsa state that is perpetually in darkness while others are always lighted up at night through the solar street lights provided by the government of Bayelsa state. We, sincerely appeal to you to come to our aid as the only Delta state community in that area.

“Water, the first time we had pipe born water was through OMPADEC, during the military regime, forty years ago. That project served its purpose but wear and tear has made it unusable as it poses high health risk”.
