A four-man syndicate of fraudsters have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for impersonating and blackmailing the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, in a $1million deal.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that the fraudsters, who claimed that Olukoyede was willing to give a former Managing Director of the Nigeria Port Authority, Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko, a soft landing in a phony investigation for $1million, were caught after EFCC operatives were deployed to play along with them.

“We received intelligence about the impersonators and decided to play along,” said an EFCC spokesperson. “They were arrested on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Gimbiya Street, Garki and Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja and are currently in our custody.

“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded”, he said.

The alleged fraudsters had contacted a former Managing Director of the Nigeria Port Authority, NPA, Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko claiming his indictment in some phony investigative activities of the EFCC during his tenure as the MD of NPA.

They alleged that Olukoyede was ready to give him a soft landing for $1million or risk being arrested and prosecuted.
