Isoko South Boss Commits To Education Sector Development, Teachers’ Welfare

…Dissolves revenue committees, orders handover of council properties
Comrade Ovoke Friday Warri, Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area in Delta State, has pledged to prioritize teachers’ welfare despite economic challenges facing the country.
He made the pledge during a meeting with the leadership of the Isoko South wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), at his office, in Oleh, headquarters of the council area, on Wednesday.
Comrade Ovoke Warri, emphasized the importance of rewarding teachers while alive and ensuring timely payment of their salaries.
He commended teachers for their sacrifices and diligence, promising to reciprocate their efforts with regular salary payments, infrastructure development, and provision of learning materials.
“We will continue to give teachers’ welfare a priority. Nothing will stop us from paying your salaries as at when due,” Warri stated.
Continuing, he said; “This administration has good plans for the education sector; especially the agricultural sector, we intend to partner with teachers to look towards agricultural issues across our schools, provide instructional materials”.
He reiterated that despite the economy challenges facing the country, “paying your salaries as at when due” would top his priority, stressing, “We will continue to give teachers’ welfare a priority.”
In his remarks, NUT Chairman in the local government area, Daniel Odhomo appreciated the council chairman’s interest in education, commending him for his prompt payment of last month’s salary.
He, however, appealed for support in areas like constituting an education board, providing pay slips, paying promotion arrears, and addressing dilapidated school buildings.
The NUT chairman congratulated the council chairman on his election victory and subsequent swearing in, assuring him of their unalloyed support for his tenure of office.
The NUT leadership, assured the council chairman that teachers would continue to work hard for the local government to occupy its pride of place in the field of education in the state.
Meanwhile, the council chairman has approved the immediate dissolution of all revenue committees in the local government.
Announcing the immediate dissolution on Wednesday shortly after a closed door meeting with various revenue bodies, Comrade Warri, directed all members of the dissolved revenue committees to immediately handover all necessary council properties in their possession.
He, however ordered the suspension of revenue payment by business owners and other residents of Isoko South council who are yet to meet their revenue obligations for 2024 till further notice.
