BREAKING: Court Declares 25 Rivers Assembly Seats Vacant, Restrains Wike’s Men
The Rivers State High Court, has declared 25 Rivers State House of Assembly seats vacant, citing the defection of lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) gathers that the court issued a temporary order stopping Martin Amaewhule, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to former governor, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists from parading themselves as assembly members.
The court, presided over by Justice Charles N. Wali, gave the order on Friday.
The judge ruled that the status of their legislative seats would be determined by the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.
BIGPEN NIGERIA reports that the development is a new twist in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, resulting from a rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, over control of the state’s political structure.
